What does it mean to say that God is “One?”

This was the Jewish catchcry in a world full of deities and idol worship. God is “one” because he is unified. His love is his justice! His mercy is his judgement!

This concept that God must punish sin whilst loving the sinner, divides the Trinity and makes God look “double-minded”. Personally, I have a lot of trouble trusting a God I perceive as double-minded.

The Bible reveals that God is only, ever, always “for us”. If we think there is this side of God that needs to punish us because it is against us in some way, then we build our house of faith … on sand.
